Science module 10

  1. Define prokaryotic cell
A cell that has no distinct membrane bounded organelles
  2. define eukaryotic cell.
A cell with distinct membrane bounded organelles.
  3. Define Pathogen
    An organism that causes disease.
  4. Define decomposers.
Organisms  that break down the dead remains of other organisms.
  5. Define vegetative reproduction.
The process by which one  part of a plant can form new roots and develop into a complete plant.
  6. Name the five kingdoms we used  in our classification system.
Kingdom Monera  Kingdom Protista, Kingdom fungi, kingdom plantae, Kingdom Animalia.
  7. An organism is made up of several eukaryotic cells  and eats only dead organisms. To which kingdom does it belong?
    Kingdom fungi
  8. An organism is made up of several eukaryotic cells  and makes its own food. It has specialized structures that perform individual tasks. To which kingdom does it belong?
    Kingdom Protista.
  9. An organism is made up of one Eukaryotic  cell and eats other living organisms to which kingdom does it belong
    Kingdom  animalia
  10. An organism is made up of several Eukaryotic cells  and eats only living plants. To which kingdom does it belong.
    Kingdom fungi
  11. Why can dehydrated food be stored for a long time without worry of it being contaminated by bacteria?
No bacteria can get in there for it can be stored for a long time.
  12. Why did people salt meat before refrigeration was available?
Salt reduce is bacterial growth and reproduction just about as well as a refrigerator
  13. When you store food for a long time why does covering it reduce the amount of bacterial contamination?
Bacteria can be introduced through particles in the air or dust
  14. A member of kingdom Protista can move it on its own. Is it part of the Protozoa or the algae?
It is part of the protozoa
  15. Are there any pathogenic organisms in kingdom Protista
    No
  16. Why are decomposers essential to creation?
If  it wasn't for decomposers then plants would choke on their own wast
  17. Are all members of Kingdom fungi made of many cells? If not give an example of a single cell member of the kingdom fungi.
There are single celled members of Kingdom fungi, for example yeast is a single celled fungus.
  18. Icebergs are dangerous to ships because the visible part of the iceberg is actually very small. Most of an iceberg is underwater where it cannot be seen. How is a mushroom like an iceberg?
A mushroom is similar to an iceberg because most of the mushroom is actually a vast network of interwoven filaments  underground therefore not visible.
  19. What is the main part of a mushroom: the, the stalk  The gills  or the mycelium
    Mycelium
  20. I cell has a cell wall and a central vacuole . Is it a prokaryotic cell a  plant cell or an animal cell.
    A plant cell
  21. What is turgor  pressure and what does it do for plants?
Turgor pressure in cells  causes the cells to go rigid.  That rigidity  allows the plant to stand straight up. thus pressure in a plant cell helps the plant to stand upright.
  22. to which kingdom do people belong
    Kingdom Anamalia
