Malay verbs

  1. Verbs
    • Used to describe actions of someone or something.
    • In Malay, can take the active or passive form.
    • Active verbs: used to show that the action is being done.
    • Passive verbs: used to show that the action has been done.
  2. Active verbs
    • Used to show that the action is being done. 
    • Active verbs are commonly accompanied byt the word 'sedang'.
    • Sedang: carries the meaning of 'being in the process of'.
    • Eg. Sedang duduk/ is sitting
    • Lelaki itu sedang duduk/ the man is sitting.
  3. Duduk
    • Duduk: sit
    • Eg. Lelaki itu sedang duduk/ The man is sitting
  4. Prefix 'ber'
    • Used for activities that generally is done or exerted onto oneself alone.
    • Diri: stand
    • Eg. lelaki itu sedang berdiri
    • Jalan: walk
    • Eg. Budak lelaki itu sedang berjalan/ the boy is walking.
  5. Prefix me/men/meng
    • Used for activities that generally is done or exerted onto another object or surface.
    • Lompat: jump
    • Eg. Budak lelaki itu sedang melompat/ the boy is jumping
    • Masak: cook
    • Eg. Lelaki itu sedang memasak/ the man is cooking
  6. Sit
    Duduk
  7. Stand
    Berdiri
  8. Walk
    Berjalan
  9. Jump
    Melompat
  10. Lay
    Baring
  11. Run
    Berlari
  12. The boy and the girl are running
    Budak lelaki dan budak perempuan itu sedang berlari.
  13. The woman is sitting
    Perempuan itu sedang duduk
