  1. Elopement
    When a patient or resident leaves the agency without staff knowledge.
  2. Ground
    That which carries leaking electrical to the earth and away from an electrical item.
  3. Hemiplegia
    Paralysis (plegia) on 1 side (hemi) of the body.
  4. Paraplegia
    Paralysis in the legs and lower trunk (para means beyond; plegia means paralysis)
  5. Enabler
    A device that limits freedom of movement but is used t promote independence, comfort, or safety.
  6. Freedom of movement
    Any change in place or position of the body or any part of the body that the person is able to control.
  7. Medical symptom
    An indication or characteristic of a physical or psychological condition.
  8. Antisepsis
    The processes, procedure, and chemical treatments that kill microbes or prevent them from causing an infection; anti meas against and sepsis means infection.
  9. Asespis
    The absence (a) of disease-producing microbes (sepsis means infection)
  10. Disinfectant
    A liquid chemical that can kill many or all pathogens except spores.
  11. Medical asepsis
    Practices used to reduce the number of microbes and prevent their spread from 1 person or place to another person or place; clean technique.
  12. Spore
    A bacterium protected by a hard shell.
  13. Sterile
    The absence of all microbes
  14. Sterile field
    A work are free of all pathogens and non-pathogens (including spores)
  15. Sterilization
    The process of destroying all microbes
  16. Surgical asespis
    The practices used to remove all microbes; sterile technique.
  17. Vector
    A carrier (animal, insect) that transmits disease.
  18. Seizure
    Violent and sudden contractions or tremors of muscle groups caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain; convulsion.
  19. Shock
    Results when tissues and organs do not get enough blood.
  20. Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA)
    The heart stops suddenly and without warning; cardiac arrest.
