Determiners

  1. Determiners (8)
    a word/phrase that modifies the NPa word which is used with a noun, and which limits the meanings of the noun in some way.

    • Examples
    • 1) articles: a/an, the
    • 2) demonstrative: this/that, these/those
    • 3) possessives:my,his/her, our, your, its, their
    • 4) noun as possessive: John's, Rudy's
    • 5) quantifiers: all, any, few, many
    • 6) partitives: glass of, loaf of, bit of, acre of
    • 7) cardinal numbers: one, two, three
    • 8) ordinal numbers: first, second, next, last
    • 9) multipliers: double, twice, three times
    • 10) fractions: three-fourths, two fifths

  2. possessive
    a word or part of a word which is used to show ownership or possession. 

    • 1) possessive pronouns:my/mine, her(s), your (s)
    • 2) 's: Helen's shoes, the three boys' books
    • 3) the of construction: the home of the doctor
  3. demonstrative
    a word (pronoun or determiner) which refers to something in terms of whether it is near to or distant from the speaker. 

    E.g. this, that, these, those

    You take these books (here) and I'll take those (there).
