    • Temporalis

    The masseter is the strongest muscle of mastication.
  3. How are muscles grouped into mastication?
    • The muscles originate from bony sites of cranium to insert at different sites of the mandible.
    • They all cross the TMJ
    • When they contract, they pull on the mandible towards origin of the particular muscle.
  4. What are the main muscles of facial expressions? And what makes them in this group?
    • Most have origins from bone and insert in soft tissue- originate on the surface of the skull. 
    • Orbicularis Oris- closes and purses lip
    • Buccinator- pulls mouth laterally
    • Levator Labii Superious- elevates upper lip
    • Orbicularis oculi- closses eyelid 
    • Depressor anguli oris- pulls lower lip down
    • Mentalis- raises chin and protrudes lip
