    • care is the essence of nursing and the dominant, distinctive and unifying feature of nursing
    • provide care the nurse safely integrates the client's cultural traditions, values and beliefes into the plan of care
  2. Nightingale's Theory
    • Facilitate "the body's reparitive process" by manipulating client's environment
    • providing fresh air, light, warmth, cleanliness, quiet, nutrition, socialization, hope etc...
  3. Caring
    means that persons, events and things matter to people
  4. Neuman's systems theory
    • assist individuals, families and groups in attaining and maintaining maximal level of total wellness by purposeful interventions
    • open system: environment is both external and internal, the person interacts with stressors from the environment, which may affect the well being of the client
  5. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

  6. Orem's Self Care Theory
    • explains the factors within a client's living situation that support or interfere with the client's self care ability
    • care for and help client attain total self care

    a conceptualization of some aspect of nursing communicated for the purpose of describing, explaining, predicting, and/or prescribing nursing care
