EOCC-MDGEO

  1. What is MDGEO?
    MPDE Overheating.
  2. What are the indications of MDGEO?
    • Gauge indicates J/W temp above 185 F.
    • J/W high temp alarm – 190 F.
    • High or low water level in J/W expansion tank.
    • Low seawater pressure.
    • Low J/W pressure.
    • Low L/O pressure.
  3. NOTE: What actions to take when engine J/W temperature reaches or exceeds 200 F?
    Proceed to Immediate Actions.
  4. NOTE: What actions to take if engine temp reaches or exceeds 200 F??
    E-stop engine
  5. NOTE: When can the combustion air shutoff be used?
Only if the electronic and mechanical E-stops fail
  6. NOTE: What happens to the engine if it’s stopped without allowing time for cooldown?
may cause damage to the engine
  7. NOTE: When is the best time to bar over the engine after a MLLOP casualty?
    At earliest opportunity
  8. NOTE: When can you stop the L/O pumps?
When the engine has come to a complete stop
  9. NOTE: How long can a L/O pump run after engine shutdown?
    No more than 10 min
  10. What are the Controlling Actions of the PACC?
    • “EOOW, _ main engine overheating; temp _ F.”
    • Shift thrust control to CCS and reduce speed one major speed decrement.
    • “EOOW, Thrust control shifted to CCS and speed reduced one major speed decrement.”
  11. What are the Controlling Actions of the EOOW?
    • IMC, “ _ main engine overheating. CRT, lay to (space).”
    • “OOD, _ main engine overheating; shifting thrust control to CCS and reducing speed one major speed decrement.”
    • Order PACC to shift thrust control to CCS and reduce speed one major speed decrement.
    • “OOD, Thrust control shifted to CCS and _ main engine RPM reduced to _ RPM.”
    • “OOD, _ main engine temp not stable continuing to slow one major speed decrement.”
    • Proceed to Immediate Actions if temp does not stabilize at AHD 1/3.
  12. What are the Controlling Actions of the Rover/CRT?
    • “Manned and ready.”
    • Investigate:
    • J/W and CFW expansion tank for proper water level.
    • J/W and CFW pump for proper operation. Start STBY pump if necessary.
    • J/W and CFW system for proper alignment.
    • J/W temp regulator for proper operation.
    • CFW temp regulator for proper alignment.
    • Seawater strainer Delta P gauge.
    • Seawater pump for proper alignment and operation.
    • Take engine L/O sample.
    • Engine sump level.
    • Engine L/O pump for proper operations. Start STBY pump if necessary.
    • Report to EOOW results of investigation.
  13. What are the Immediate Actions of the PACC?
    • “EOOW, _ main engine overheating and uncontrollable. Stopping/E-stopping _ main engine.”
    • E-stop affected shaft.
    • Stop affected main engine. Verify clutch disengages.
    • Place affected shaft in trailing mode by resetting shaft E-stop and selecting “TRAILING”.
    • “EOOW, Thrust control shifted to CCS. _ main engine stopped, clutch disengaged, _ shaft trailing, ECS is in trailing mode.”
  14. What are the Immediate Actions of the EOOW?
    • Order CRT to the space.
    • “OOD, _ main engine overheating and uncontrollable; stopping/tripping _ main engine, clutch disengaged and _ shaft trailing. Thrust control shifted to CCS. Maximum speed available _ knot.”
    • Verify _ main engine clutch has automatically disengaged, if not, manually disengage/dump _ clutch.
    • “EOOW, _ main engine clutch is disengaged”
