Multiplying fractions

    • Rule: when multiplying fractions just multiply the numerators and denominators straight across and simplify.you do not need a least common denominator( LCD)
    • Step 1:                          2 x 3 =6
    •           Image Upload 2                     4 x 6 = 24         

    • Step 2:     (6 x 1)            simplifying
    • Image Upload 3             (6 x 4)  

    FINAL ANSWER:  Image Upload 4

    • Another way of getting the same answer..
    • Step 1                       2 x 3 = 6
    • Image Upload 8                          2  x 12 = 24

    • Step 2                         Simplify
    •                   (3 x 2)
    • Image Upload 9              (3 x 8)      =     Image Upload 10

    • Step 3              Simplify some more..
    •                 (2 x 1)
    • Image Upload 11              ( 2 X 4)       = Image Upload 12


    it took 2 steps to get the same answer!

    • in this example we did not need to simplify

    • meaning there is no number that can divide into 10 and 21 evenly
