Emergency Procedures

  1. Land As Soon As Practical
    The landing site and duration of the flight are at the discretion of the pilot.  Extended flight beyond the nearest approved landing area is not recommended.
  2. Land As Soon As Possible
    Land without delay at nearest suitable area (i.e. open field) at which a safe approach and landing is reasonably assured.
  3. WARNING LIGHT (RED) SEGMENT:

    ENG OUT
    Verify engine condition; accomplish engine failure procedure.
  4. WARNING LIGHT (RED) SEGMENT:

    BATT HOT
    Deactivated; Land As Soon As Possible
  5. WARNING LIGHT (RED) SEGMENT:

    LITTER DOOR OPEN
    Land As Soon As Practical
  6. CAUTION LIGHTS (AMBER) SEGMENTS:

    ROTOR LOW RPM
    Reduce collective pitch, ensure throttle fully open.

    ENGINE CHIP

    Verify fuel quanity - Land As Soon As Practical
  16. CAUTION LIGHTS (AMBER) SEGMENTS:

    R/FUEL PUMP or 
    L/FUEL PUMP
    • Descend < 6000 FT PA
    • Land As Soon As Practical
  17. HYD SYS FAILURE
    • Airspeed (61 - 69 KTS)
    • Hydraulic System CB  -  Out.  Power not restored.
    • Hydraulic System CB  -  In.
    • Hydraulic System Switch  -  On:  Off - If power not restored.
    • Land As Soon As Practicable
  18. ENG FIRE (START/SHUTDOWN)
    • Throttle     -  Closed
    • Fuel Valve  -  OFF
    • Starter       -  Continue to motor until TOT stabilizes
  19. ENG FIRE (IN FLIGHT)
    • Throttle     -  Closed
    • Enter Autorotation
    • Fuel Valve  -  OFF
    • Battery      -  OFF
    • Generator  -  OFF
  20. ELECTRICAL POWER FAILURE
    • Verify load meter
    • GEN FIELD & GEN RESET circuit breakers  - Check In
    • GEN Switch  -  RESET; then GEN
    • If power is not restored, place GEN Switch to OFF.
    • Land As Soon As Practical.
  21. DUAL BOOST FAILURE
    Land As Soon As Possible.  -  Up to 150lbs of unusable fuel.
  22. TAIL ROTOR CONTROL FAILURE

    COMPLETE LOSS OF THRUST
    • Throttle  -  Reduce to idle
    • Autorotate
    • Min airspeed 52 KIAS during descent
    • Throttle  -  Closed for landing
  23. TAIL ROTOR CONTROL FAILURE

    FIXED PITCH FAILURE
    • Power      -  Adjust to minimize excessive yawing.
    • Airspeed  -  Adjust to minimize excessive yawing.
  24. CABIN VENTILATION
    • Cabin Vent  -  Pull to open
    • Open cabin windows for maximum ventilation 
  25. FUEL CONTROL AND OR GOVERNOR FAILURE
    • Control power with throttle if engine overspeeds
    • Maintain RPM with collective pitch if engine underspeeds
    • Establish autorotative glide
    • Prepare for power off landing
  26. ENGINE FAILURE AND AUTOROTATION
    • Collective Pitch Control  -  Adjust to maintain rotor RPM at 90 - 107%
    • Cyclic Control  -  Adjust to obtain desired autorotative airspeed for existing conditions

    • Normal Autorotative Airspeed                              -  61KIAS
    • Minimum Rate of Descent Airspeed                      -  52KIAS
    • Maximum Glide Airspeed                                     -  69KIAS
    • Maximim Steady State Airspeed for Autorotation   -  100KIAS

    At low altitude, close the throttle and flare to lose excessive airspeed.  Apply collective pitch as flare effect decreases to further decrease forward speed and cushion landing.  It is recommended that a level touchdown be made prior to passing through 70% rotor RPM.
  27. COMPRESSOR STALL
    • Collective  -  Reduce to maintain slow cruise flight
    • Check TOT and N1 for indications
    • Engine Anti-Ice  -  ON

    • IF PILOT ELECTS TO CONTINUE FLIGHT:
    • Collective  -  Increase slowly to desired power level
    • TOT, N1  -  Monitor
    • Land As Soon As Practical

    • IF PILOT ELECTS TO SHUTDOWN ENGINE
    • Throttle     -  Closed
    • Fuel Valve  -  OFF
    • Collective   -  Maintain 90 - 107% Nr
    • Cyclic        -  Adjust Airspeed
    • Prepare for Power Off Landing
