  1. imagination inflation effect
    it occurs when a memory is elaborated upon through imagination, leading the person to confuse the imaged event with events that actually happened
  2. confirmatory bias
    the tendency to look only for evidence that confirms their previous hunch and to not look for evidence that might disconfirm their belief
  3. cognitive unconscious
    readily acknowledge that information can get into our memories without our ever being aware of the information
  4. sublimation perception
    • does not influence people's motivations
    • ex:// flashed on a screen so quick that you don't recognize the actual words
  5. priming
    makes that associated material more accessible to conscious awareness than is material that is not primed
  6. identity crisis
    desperation and confusion a person feels when he or she has not developed a strong sense of identity
  7. stage model of development
    implying that people go through the stages in a certain order and hat there is a specific issue that characterizes each stage
  8. culture
    a set of shared standards for many behaivours
  9. fear of success
    to highlight a gender difference in response to compeition and achievement situations
  10. self-serving biases
    which refers to the common tendency for people to take the credit for success yet to deny responsibility for failure
  11. narcissism
    inflated self-admiration and constant attempts to draw attention to the self and to keep others focused on oneself
  12. narcissistic paradox
    although a narcissist appears high in self-esteem, he or she actually had doubts about his or her worth as a person
  13. strange situation procedure
    mother and baby enter the laboratory room, and leaves the stranger with baby, comes back and record baby's reaction
  14. securely attached
    stoically endured the separation and went about exploring the room, interacted with stranger, felt confident the mother would return
  15. avoidantly attached
    avoided the mother when they returned
  16. ambivalently attached
    cry when mom left, however behaved ambivalently when mom returned, showed both anger and desire to be close to the mother
  17. secure relationship style
    the person has few problem developing satisfying friendships and relationships, trust people
  18. avoidant relationship
    difficulty in learning to trust others
  19. ambivalent relationship style
    vulnerability and uncertainty about relationships
