Common Uses
- Antifever DOC for children and adolescents due to the risk for Reyes Syndrome with Aspirin products.
- Indicated for treatment of mild to moderate pain, or fever. Minimal to no anti-inflammatory effects
- *Primary alternative to NSAIDS.

What I Need to Know!!
- Hepatotoxic in large doses, contraindicated with known liver or in clients who consume alcohol on reg basis.
- acetaminophen inhibits warfarin metabolism, which can cause warfarin to accumulate to toxic levels
- With long-term use monitor hepatic function, ALT, AST, and bilirubin.
- Treat OD with IV or oral N-acetylcysteine (Acetadote) or inhaled or oral acetylcysteine (Mucomyst)

What I Need To Know for NCLEX
- Most serious adverse effect is GI complaints including GI bleeding.
- Available in enteric-coated and buffered preparations for clients who experience GI effects.
- D/C 1 week prior to surgery
- Excreted in urine, may effect urine testing for glucose vanillymandelic acid
- ASA contraindicated in children in adolescents due to the risk of Ryes Syndrome
- Contraindicated with Vitamin K deficiency and peptic ulcer disease
