FUNCTION - The nucleus stores the cell's genetic information in the form of DNA. It also acts like the brain of the cell.It helps control movement, eating, and reproduction.DNA tells the cell what protines need to be produced. The nucleus is control center of the cell.

Function – A Cell Wall is a structural layer that surrounds some types of cells, situated outside the cell membrane.

This Organelle cannot be found in an animal cell only a plant cell.

You use a light microscope to view a cell wall.

The mitochondria is known as the powerhouse of the cell.They break down nutrients and turn them into energy rich molecules.

They are mostly found in Eukaryotic cells. The process that produces energy is cellular respiration.The type of energy mitochondria processed is called ATP

These are found in cells with high energy needs for example your muscles. Not found in prokaryotic cells as they need membranes around them

Ribosomes assemble amino acids to create specific proteins. These proteins are essential to carry out cellular activities.

The process of production of proteins, the deoxyribonucleic acid produces RNA by the process of DNA transcription. Protein synthesis osmoses are found in both plant and animal cells.

Function – The endoplasmic reticulum is a membrane system of folded sacs and interconnected channels that serve as a site for protein and lipid synthesis.


If Ribosomes are attached to the endoplasmic reticulum is rough, if there’s none it’s therefore smooth

This organelle is found in both cells animal and plant cells. The Endoplasmic reticulum is viewed through an electron microscope.

Always found near the nucleus

FUNCTION - Sorts and processes proteins. After the proteins travel through the rough endoplasmic reticulum to be synthesized is goes to the Golgi Complex.

The function of the Lysosome function is to break down cellular waste and get rid of it.


Lysosomes can be found in eukaryotic cells especially animal cells. They contain powerful enzymes that breakdown debris.

Peroxisomes neutralize harmful toxins and carry out lipid metabolism


(energy needs and oxidation reactions that break down fatty acids and amino acids.)


Peroxisomes are found in both plant and animal cells.

Function - Chloroplasts work to convert light energy of sun into sugars that can be used by cells. The entire process is called photosynthesis.


Found in plant cells and some protists.


They are seen under an electron microsope


They are green in colour because of chlorophyll. Green is is most absorbent colour for sunlight to create photosynthesis.

FUNCTION - moves liquid past the surface of the cell. They are capable of specific types of movements. assist in movements of the cell


Example of this is the small intestine, trachea and sperm


IN PLANT/ANIMAL CELL  - Found in all animal cells and sometimes in plant cells. (very rare)

FUNCTION - Helps the cell maintain shape and in cellular movement. Anchors the cell to its neighbours.
