  1. What and where is the ligamentum arteriosum?
    remnant of the fetal ductus arteriosus,which is a shunt between the aorta and pulmonary trunk
  2. What is the venous return that drains into the right atrium? (3)
    caudal vena cava, cranial vena cava, coronary sinus (drainage of great cardiac vein)
  3. What is the intervenous tubercle?
    ridge in the right atrium b/w the 2 venae cavae that diverts caval blood into the right AV orifice
  4. Where is the fossa ovale?
    caudal to the intervenous tubercle and dorsocranial to the coronary sinus, within the right atrium
  5. Describe the cardiac conduction system.
    sinoatrial node--> AV node--> bundle of His--> left and right bundle branches--> Purkinje cells--> smaller conduction bundles--> moderator bands/false tendons--> ventricular muscles
  6. What and where is the sinoatrial node?
    the pacemaker of the heart- subepicardially at the junction of the cranial vena cava and the right auricle
  7. Where is the AV node?
    subendocardially in the lower potion of the atrial septum, above tricuspid valve and cranial to coronary sinus
  8. Describe where the RV inflow and outflow run.
    starts to the right of the midline, curves like a U around the supraventricular crest, and exits to the left of the midline into the pulmonary artery
  9. Describe the continuity of the right vs. left chambers of the heart.
    • left-¬†cranioventral/septal leaflet of the mitral valve is in anatomic/fibrous continuity with the aortic valve
    • right- tricuspid valve is NOT ¬†in direct anatomic continuity with the pulmonic valve, but is instead separated by the supraventricular crest
