What happens first and lasts longer? Right or Left Sided Events?
Right-Sided events
Which cardiac valve has the largest opening?
Tricuspid valve 7-9cm2
What are some causes of Tricuspid Regurgitation? (5)
1. Aortic and Mitral valve diseases such as MS
2. Pulmonary Hypertension
3. RV infarction
4. Pacemaker wires
5. Heart transplant
What are 3 causes of pulmonary hypertension?
1. Mitral valve disease
2. Congenital lesions
3. Cor Pulmonale
What is ebstein's anomaly?
A congenital malformation of the TV in which the attachment of one or both leaflets are displaced downward from the annulus to the RV wall.
Why is there no left-sided involvement with carcinoid syndrome?
Because the lungs filter out the harmful substances.
Echo findings of Tricuspid Regurgitation
1. RVVO
2. Dilated RA and RV
3. Thickened leaflets
4. Dilated IVC
5. Reversal of flow in the hepatic veins
What formula do we use to determine the RVSP?
Bernoulli's
RVSP= 4v2 + IVC pressure
What formula do we use to quantitate the severity of tricuspid stenosis/the TVA?
TVA = 220/pressure half time
Causes of pulmonary stenosis (5)
1. Congenital
2. Carcinoid heart disease
3. Rheumatic
4. Ross procedure
5. Sinus of valsalva aneurysm- producing a RVOT obstruction
Echo Findings of pulmonary insufficiency (4)
1. Diastolic flutter on the TV- Doppler or M-Mode
2. Dilated RV from RVVO- 2D
3. Pancaked septum- 2D
4. High RV pressure causes premature opening
