  1. What an element?
    A substance that cannot be broken down chemically into a simpler substance
  2. What is the atomic number?
    The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom
  3. What is the rule between protons and electrons?
    The number of protons equals the number of electrons
  4. What is the mass number?
    The number of protons and neutrons
  5. What determines an atom chemical properties?
    The number of electrons
  6. What is an isotope?
    Atoms with the same number of protons but different number of neutrons
  7. How do isotopes effect the physical and chemical properties of an element and why is this the case? (2 marks)
    Isotopes have different physical properties because physical properties are dependent on mass. 

    Isotopes have the same chemical properties because they have the same electron configuration and arrangement.
  8. What is the relative atomic mass?
    The average mass of atom of an element compared with a mass of a carbon- 12 isotope
  9. What is the relative isotopic mass?
    The mass of an atom of an isotope of an element measured on a scale where the mass of 12 carbon is 12
  10. What is the relative  molecular mass?
    the average mass of a molecule on a scale where 12 Carbon is 12
