  1. Alveoli
    Tiny air sacs in the lungs.
  2. Aspiration
    Inhaling of food, liquid, mucus, or vomits into air passages.
  3. Asthma
    A disease of the bronchi, causing narrowing air passages and difficulty breathing.
  4. Bronchi
    Tubes which connect trachea to lungs.
  5. Bronchitis
    Inflammation of the bronchi.
  6. COPD
    A lung condition arising from repeated injury of the tissue, with tissues becoming less elastic and breathing becoming difficult.
  7. Cilia
    Microscopic hair-like appendages that sweep foreign matter out of the trachea and bronchi.
  8. Diaphragm
    Muscle which separates the chest cavity from the abdomen.
  9. Emphysema
    A condition of the lungs in which bronchioles become less flexible and plugged with mucus and breathing becomes difficult .
  10. Epiglottis
    Tissue that closes during swallowing to cover the top of the trachea.
  11. External Respiration (Breathing)
    The exchange of gases between the body and the outside world.
  12. Inflamed
    Red, swollen.
  13. Internal Respiration
    The exchange of gases between the blood and the cells of the body.
  14. Larynx
    Voice box.
  15. Lungs
    Two organs in the chest cavity responsible for the exchanging gases with the blood.
  16. Metabolism
    All the physical and chemical processes involved in sustaining life.
  17. Pneumonia
    A disease caused by a virus or bacteria in which the lung tissue is inflamed and the airways fill with fluid.
