    • Rapid-acting, potent
    • Inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the nephron's loop of Henle.
    • Vasodilatory properties reduce preload
  3. Indications
    • CHF
    • Acute Pulmonary Edema
  4. Contraindications
    • Hypersensitivity
    • Hypotension
    • Dehydration
    • Electrolyte depletion
  5. Precautions
    • Usage in pregnancy should be limited to life threatening situations as furosemide may cause fetal abnormalities
    • Renal or hepatic insufficiencies
    • Protect from light
  6. Side Effects
    • Hypotension
    • Dizziness
    • CP
    • Dry mouth
    • Hypochloremia
    • Hypokalemia
    • Hyponatremia
    • Hypomagnesemia
    • Hypocalcemia
    • N/V
    • Ototoxicity
    • Hyperglycemia
    • Tinnitus if pushed to rapidly
  7. Interactions
    • Digitalis
    • Lithium toxicity
  8. Dose and Route
    • 0.5-1 mg/kg slow IVP over 1-2 mins
    • General dosing is 40-120 mg slow IVP
