Posterior Triangle of the Neck is bounded by:
Anterior:
Posterior:
Inferior:
- Anterior: Sternocleidomastoid
- Posterior: Trapezius
- Inferior: Clavicle
-
Posterior Triangle of the Neck is divided into 2.
- Occipital Triangle
- Supraclavicular Triangle
-
Occipital Triangle is bounded by:
- Anterior: Sternocleidomastoid
- Posterior: Trapezius
- Inferior: Inferior belly of omohyoid
-
Subclavicular Triangle is bounded by:
- Anterior: Sternocleidomastoid
- Inferior: Clavicle
- Superior: Inferior belly of omohyoid
-
What are the arteries, veins, and nerves that can be found in the posterior triangle of the neck?
(ASSO) Arteries: Sublclavian artery (3rd part), Superficial Cervical artery, Suprascapular artery, Occipital artery
(VES) Veins: External Jugular Vein and their tributaries, Subclavian Vein (occasionally)
(NBSB) Nerves: Brachial plexus, Spinal part of Accessory nerve, Branch of Cervical Plexus
-
- Enters at the anteroposterior border of the posterior triangle and disappears in the midline of the clavicle
- Together with the brachial plexus, supply axillary sheath
- Do not have branches but the superficial cervical and suprascapular arteries may rise from it.
Subclavian artery (3rd part)
-
Branch of thyrocervical trunk
Superficial cervical artery
-
- branch of thyrocervical trunk that follows the suprascapular nerve to the suprascapinous fossa and participates in the arterial anastomosis around scapula
Suprascapular Artery
-
Part of external carotid artery
Occipital Artery
-
Important superficial vein in the neck
External Jugular Vein
-
Formed from the anterior rami of the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th cervical nerves from the 1st thoracic nerve
Brachial Plexus
-
Brings about the movement of the soft palate, pharynx, larynx, and controls the movements of SCM and trapezius
Spinal Part of the Accessory Nerve
-
- Arise from the anterior rami of the first four cervical vertebra and supplies the skin and muscles of the head, neck, and shoulders
Branches of Cervical Plexus
-
Anterior Triangle of the Neck is bounded by:
- Anterior: Midline of the neck
- Inferior: Sterncocleidomastoid
- Superior: Lower margin of the body of mandible
-
Submental Triangle is bounded by:
Anterior:
Lateral:
Inferior:
Floor:
Contains:
- Anterior: Midline of the neck
- Lateral: Anterior belly of Digastric
- Inferior: Hyoid bone
- Floor: Mylohyoid
- Contains: Submental Lymph Nodes, Anterior Jugular Vein
-
Digastric Triangle is bounded by:
Anterior:
Posterior:
Above:
Floor:
Contains:
- Anterior: Anterior belly of Digastric
- Posterior: Posterior belly of Digastric
- Above: Lower border of the body of mandible
- Floor: Mylohyoid and Hyoglossus
- Contains:
- Anterior: Submandibular salivary gland
- Posterior: Carotid sheat, carotid arteries, internal jugular vein, vagus nerve
-
Carotid Triangle is bounded by:
Superior:
Inferior:
Posterior:
Floor:
Contains:
- Superior: Posterior belly of Digastric
- Inferior: Superior border of the Omohyoid
- Posterior: Sternocleidomastoid
- Floor: Parts of thyrohyoid, hyoglossus, middle and inferior constrictor muscles of the pharynx
- Contains: Carotid Sheath
-
Muscular Triangle is bounded by:
Anterior:
Superior:
Inferior:
Floor:
