Describe the anatomical pathway for second branchial cleft anomalies
- 2nd cleft deep tract runs:
- BETWEEN internal and external carotid arteries
- SUPERIOR to IX & Xll
- ENDS at tonsillar fossa
Describe the anatomical pathway for first branchial cleft anomalies

medial OR lateral to main trunk of facial nerve OR between the branches
Describe the anatomical pathway for third branchial cleft anomalies
- 3rd cleft deep tract runs:
- POSTERIOR to internal and external carotid arteries
- BETWEEN XI & XII
- ENDS in apex of pyriform sinus
Describe the anatomical pathway for fourth branchial cleft anomalies
- 4th cleft deep tract:
- BEGINS w sinus at the apex of the pyriform sinus
- DESCENDS in the tracheoesophageal groove, POSTERIOR to the thyroid gland, and into the thorax
- loops UNDER aorta (left) or subclavian artery (right)
- ASCENDS POSTERIOR to the common carotid artery
- loops OVER XII
- ENDS at anterior border of SCM
