    a means of gaining coherence, creating emphasis and indicating shades of difference
  2. What does Metonymy mean?
    a figure of speech in which one word or phrase is substituted for another with which it is closely associated; for example, the use of the word "Washinton" to the U.S goverment
  3. What does Synecdoche mean?
    a figure of speech in which a part of something is used to represent the whole, the whole of something is used to represent a part; the specific is used for the general; the general is used for the specific; of the material of an object is used in place of the object, "hired hand"
