  1. Describe the structure of the earth?
A sphere with a thin rocky crust, a mantle below the crust, a outer core below the mantle and a inner core in the middle of the earth.

  2. What is the core made up of?
    The core contains iron
  3. Describe the outer layer of the earth?
There are oceanic plates under oceans and continents under continents
  4. Describe the mantle?
The mantle is found between the crust and the core. The mantle is approximately 1,800 miles (2897 km) deep and is made of a thick, solid, rocky substance that represents about 85% of the total weight and mass of the Earth.
  5. What is lithosphere?
The lithosphere contains the crust and upper mantle. The Earth has two types of lithosphere, oceanic and continental. The lithosphere is broken up into tectonic plates.
  6. What causes earthquakes and volcano's?
    The movement of tectonic plates
  7. How fast do tectonic plates move?
They move around 2.5 cm a year
  8. Why is studying the earths structure so difficult?
We can only drill so far into the earth. The rest of the results are based on seismology which is the sound waves in the rock that are caused by explosions or earthquakes.
  9. Why do plates float?
They are less dense than the mantle so they float on top of it.
  10. What happens when two plates meet?
  11. What happens at the ocean margins?
  12. How did the idea if plate tectonics begin?
  13. Why has the theory of tectonic plates slowly accepted by scientists?
It was slowly accepted by scientists because there was more evidence that supported the theory of tectonic plates?
  14. How does magma get to the surface?
  15. Why does magma rise to the surface?
  16. How is igneous rock formed?
  17. What is magma?
  18. What is lava?
  19. What are the different types of lava?
  20. Describe subduction?
