  1. What are the eight steps for setting up an oxygen cylinder and regulator?
    • Confirm medical grade oxygen
    • Clear dust or debris from opening
    • Place a new O-ring
    • Secure the regulator to the valve stem
    • Open the valve two full turns
    • Read the pressure gauge
    • Attach tubing and adjust to desired flow
    • Place deliver device on patient
  2. What are the two ways used to determine whether oxygen is medical grade?
    • cylinder will be green
    • pin index groupings will line up
  3. How do you clear dust/debris from the opening?
    Open the valve until gas is heard and then immediately close

  6. What are three causes for a leaking cylinder?
    • improperly seated O-ring
    • dust/debris in the opening
    • poor connection between regulator pins and cylinder

    500 psi
  8. At what pressure do you take a cylinder out of service if it is in use?
    200 psi
  9. What is the pressure of a full oxygen cylinder?
    2000 psi
  10. At what pressure should portable cylinders be changed?
    between 500 and 1000 psi
  11. Why should an oxygen cylinder never be allowed to go below 200 psi while in use?
    cannot deliver appropriate flow and will empty in minutes
  12. What should be done after turning off the valve and before removing the regulator?
    bleed the system
  13. What should be done after the cylinder is taken out of service?
    pressure should be logged or label with remaining pressure affixed to cylinder
  14. Should cylinders with allowed to stand upright?
    only if secured

    • 2 - 6 lpm
    • 24 - 44%
