  1. What is HTML5?
    Newest mark-up language for presenting content on the web which hasn't been updated since 1999. It was specially designed to deliver rich content without the need for additional plug-ins. The current version delivers everything from animation to graphics, music to movies, and can also be used to build complicated web applications. HTML5 is also a cross-platform framework designed to work whether you are using a PC, or a Tablet, a Smartphone, or a Smart TV.
  2. What are some of the new HTML5 data types?
    calendar, date, time, email, url, search
  3. What are some of the best new features of HTML5?
    Audio/Video support, local storage up to 5MB (to replace cookies/never sent to server), canvas for 2D drawing, geolocation, drag/drop, application cache (to store a web page in cache, even when off-line), and new web workers (processes that can run simultaneously in javascript, much like AJAX).
  4. Describe the basic layout of a standard HTML page.
    ((!DOCTYPE html))((html))((header))((link))((script))((/head))((body))((form))((/form))((/body))((/html))
  5. What's the HTML5 directive?
    ((!DOCTYPE html)) placed at the top of the website page.
  6. What is CSS and why do we use it?
    Cascading Style Sheets define how a page is styled/formatted. HTML was developed specifically for content, not style, so with the introduction of ((font)), ((b)), ((i)) styling tags as HTML documents, updates to web pages became a nightmare, resulting in the creation of styling sheets used to format a page and keep content and delivery separated; doing so allows a page to be loaded quicker, reduces HTTPRequest calls, and most importantly, allows a web page to be changed quickly and easily in a single, centralized location.
  7. What are the 5 major browsers in order of popularity?
    • Chrome: 46%,
    • Safari: 22%
    • IE/Edge: 12%,
    • Firefox: 7%,
    • Opera: 1%

  10. What are the three different types of selectors in CSS?
    • (1) Element Selector (ie, all HTML objects like p, table, button)
    • (2) ID Selector (ie., #txtFirstName)
    • (3) Class Selector (ie., .ErrFirstName)

    • #txtFirstName { color: red; },
    • .ErrFirstName { font-style: Verdana, Times New Roman; text-align: center;}
  11. What's the proper procedure for including styling on a web-page?
    Try to never use in-line styling, instead, put all styling in an external file and call it, thereby allowing the file to be cached so it isn't pulled back from the server on every page.
  12. What are the three ways of including CSS styling?
    In-line, internal to the webpage via header section, and in an external file.
  13. Call an external CSS file in the header section.
    ((link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="mystyle.css"))
  14. Using JavaScript, change the font style of a div tag.
    document.getElementById("divParagraph").style.color = "red";
  15. Write styling syntax to change color of links (remember, order is important!).

  16. What are some of the more awesome features of CSS3?
    New font styles, 2D/3D imaging, animation, shadow boxing, rounded corners (great for tables or buttons), gradients, background, text wrapping and shadows, transitions, and more.
  17. What is CSS grouping?
    It's formatting more than one item at a time by using commas between each name, such as h1,h2,p { font-style: underline; }
  18. Change three different properties of a page paragraph, its headers, and its body.
    • body{background-color:#d0e4fe;}
    • h1{color:orange;text-align:center;}
    • p{font-family:"Times New Roman";font-size:20px;}
  19. Are CSS always cached? Explain your answer.
    They are USUALLY cached but this is dependent on (a) the browser used and (b) the server used to host the file and/or generate the page header.

    Expect that the browser will almost always listen to suggestions or commands related to caching so that we want to try to control caching via the server (ie, IIS) and explicit calls: such as HTTP header cachine or the command no-cache.
