How are the propellers operated?
By oil pressure from the engine's oil system. The oil pressure is boosted by the propeller governor gear pump (located in the rear of the engine). Oil pressure from the governor drives the blades toward low pitch/high RPM setting. Springs, air pressure, counterweights drive the blades towards high pitch/low RPM setting when oil pressure is relieved.
