  3. Norepinephrine (Levophed) Indications
    • 1. hypotension refractory to other sympathomimetic
    • 2. Neurogenic shock
    • 3. cardiogenic shock
  4. Norepinephrine (Levophed) Contraindications
    • 1. hypotensive states due to hypovolemia
    • 2. hypoxia and hypercarbia
    • 3. patients taking antidepressents
    • 4. do not administer w/ sodium bicarbonate (deactivatd by alkaline solutions)
  5. Norepinephrine (Levophed) Precautions
    • 1. monitor BP
    • 2. use large vein for administration
  6. Norepinephrine (Levophed) Side Effects
    • 1. palpitations
    • 2. severe hypertension
    • 3. local venous irritation and tissue necrosis
    • 4. headache, sweating, nausea, vomitting
    • 5. ventricular dysrhythmias
  7. Norepinephrine (Levophed) Dosage
    .5-30 mcg / min

    Method: 4mg in 500ml D5W giving concentration of 8mcg / min

    IV infusion only

    ampule: 4mg / 4 ml
  10. Norepinephrine (Levophed) Pediatric Dosage
    .01 - .05 mcg / kg / min (very rare)
