What do you call a compound with only 2 elements?
Binary compounds
Acids usually star with what element?
"H" - Hydrogen
What is a type I ionic compound?
Single cation metal + nonmetal
What are the rules for naming Type I compounds? (cation metal+nonmetal)
1. Name the cation first
2. Name the nonmetal with -ide ending
Remember all compounds must be stable!!!
NaCl
Type one because it has a cation metal and a nonmetal
Sodium Chloride
How to name multiple cations
Name the cation (metal) and indicate the charge with roman numeral in ( )

2 or more atoms bonded together
usually ending in ate, with the exception of Hydronium ion
What fix is placed on a polyatomic ions if its has 1 less O than the(-ate) ending?
-ite if polyatomic ion has one less O
What fix is placed on a polyatomic ion if it has 2 less O than the (-ate) ending
-hypo is it has 2 less O molecules
What fix is place of a polyatomic ion if it has 1 more O than the (-ate) ending
