What is anatomy and physiology?
- Anatomy: The study of the structure of body parts and their relationships to one another.
- Physiology: is concerned with the function of the body and how the body parts work and carry out their life sustaining activities.
What is systemic anatomy?

The study of anatomy by individual systems
What is the principle of complementary structure and function?

What a structure is able to do directly depends on its specific form.
What are the levels of structural organization in the body?
- 1. Chemical

What are the four basic tissue types in the human body?
- Epithelium
- muscle
- Connective

What is an organ system?

Organs that work together to accomplish a common purpose
What makes up the homeostatic control system?
- Receptor
- Control center
- Effector
What is positive feed back?

Often referred to as cascades; i.e. enhancement of labor during childbirth and blood clotting
What is the axial part of the skeleton?

makes up the main axis of the body to include the head, neck, and trunk
What is the appendicular skeleton?

Consists of the appendages, or limbs, which are attached to the bodies axis.
What is the viscera?

Internal organs housed in the ventral cavity
What separates the abdominopelvic cavity from the thoracic cavity?

Diaphragm
What is a serous membrane?
- a thin, double layered membrane that lines the walls of the ventral body cavity and the outer surfaces of the organs it contains.
- Parietal Serosa: the part of the membrane lining the cavity wall
- Visceral serosa: the part of the membrane that covers the organs.
