    •Loosely organized tissue allows for mobility  of white blood cells and other defense cells to enter the epidermis if it is compromised (cut, scrape, etc) – we
    don’t want bacteria, viruses, etc
    to reach our blood vessels found deeper in the dermis!!

    •Rich in small blood vessels

    • zone of dermis
  5. •Consists of dense, irregular connective tissue
    •Stretch marks (striae) occur here (tears in the collagen fibers caused by stretching of the skin due to pregnancy or obesity)
    • Reticular layer—deeper
    • and much thicker layer of dermis
