Drug Protocols

  1. Indications for Sodium Chloride 0.9%
    • Hypovolaemia
    • Dehydration
    • Drug administration
  2. Contra-Indications of Sodium Chloride 0.9%
    Nil
  3. Precautions of Sodium Chloride 0.9%
    • Patients with acute heart failure, or Hx of same
    • Pre-existing renal failure
    • Uncontrolled haemorrhage unless Pt has a severe head injury
  4. Side effects of Sodium Chloride 0.9%
    Excessive administration will result in fluid overload
  5. Dosages of Sodium Chloride 0.9% - Adult
    Burns - 1litre IV initially, consult if delay transporting

    Dehydration- 1litre IV initially then reassess for improvement

    Heat stroke- 2-3 litres IV rapidly, then reassess

    Hypovolaemia - Titrate according to needs, type of trauma and response to Rx
  6. Dosages of Sodium Chloride 0.9% - Child
    Medical consult and approval required

    Heat stroke/dehydration/burns/hypovolaemia

    10-20ml/kg IV, may be repaeted once if required, total max dose = 40ml/kg
