  1. Presentation of Midazolam
    5mg in 1ml ampoule
  2. Indications for Midazolam
    Seizures/convulsions
  3. Contra-Indications for Midazolam
    KSAR to benzodiazepines
  4. Precautions for Midazolam
    • Reduced dosages may be needed in the elderly or Pt's with renal failure, CCF or shock
    • Can cause severe respiratory distress in COAD Pt's
    • Myasthenia Gravis
    • Multiple Sclerosis
  5. Side effects of Midazolam
    Respiratory depression especially when associated with alcohol or narcotics

    Hypertension
  6. Dosages of Midazolam - Adult less than 50 y/o
    5mg IM repeated at 10 minute intervals until seizure is managed
  7. Dosages of Midazolam - Adult older than 50 y/o
    2.5mg IM repeated at 10 minute intervals until seizure is managed
  8. Dosages of Midazolam - Child
    200mcg/kg as single initial dose, may be repeated at half the initial dose at 10 minute intervals until seizure is managed. Any single dose not to exceed 5mg
