Drug Protocols

  1. Presentation of Metoclopramide
    10mg in 2ml ampoule
  2. Indications of Metoclopramide
    • Aeromedical evacuation
    • Prophylactically to prevent vomiting in Pt's with eye, head and spinal injuries
    • Significant nausea and vomiting
    • Use with Morphine in Pt's with previous nausea/vomiting with narcotics
  3. Contra-Indications of Metoclopramide
    • KSAR
    • Patients less than 12yo
    • Hx of dystonic reactions
    • Not to be given within 6 hours of Phenothiazine
  4. Precautions for Metoclopramide
    • GI haemorrhage
    • Bowel obstruction or perforation
  5. Side effects of Metoclopramide
    • Drowsiness, lethargy, dry mouth
    • Dystonic reaction
    • Occulogyric crisis
  6. Dosage of Metoclopramide (16 or older only)
    10-20mg IM

    10-20mg IV slowly over 1 minute
