Presentation of Metoclopramide

10mg in 2ml ampoule
Indications of Metoclopramide
- Aeromedical evacuation
- Prophylactically to prevent vomiting in Pt's with eye, head and spinal injuries
- Significant nausea and vomiting
- Use with Morphine in Pt's with previous nausea/vomiting with narcotics
Contra-Indications of Metoclopramide
- KSAR
- Patients less than 12yo
- Hx of dystonic reactions
- Not to be given within 6 hours of Phenothiazine
Precautions for Metoclopramide
- GI haemorrhage
- Bowel obstruction or perforation
Side effects of Metoclopramide
- Drowsiness, lethargy, dry mouth
- Dystonic reaction
- Occulogyric crisis
Dosage of Metoclopramide (16 or older only)

10-20mg IM

10-20mg IV slowly over 1 minute
