May cause tissue and vascular necrosis if not flushed properly or if it leaks into tissue
Pt's suspected of CVA
Side effects of Glucose 10%
Nil
Dosage of Glucose 10% - Adult
150ml bolus IV as initial dose then retake Pt's BSL, if less than 4 mmol/L give a further bolus of 100ml. Continue assessing Pt's BSL, titrating glucose in 100ml boluses until BSL greater than 4 mmol/L
Dosage of Glucose 10% - Child
2.5ml/kg IV as initial dose then retake Pt's BSL, if less than 4
mmol/L give a further bolus of 1ml/kg. Continue assessing Pt's BSL,
titrating glucose in 1m/kgl boluses until BSL greater than 4 mmol/L
