  11. Why does water have such a high specific heat?
    Because of the hydrogen bonds in water molecules. Enough heat must be absorbed to break those bonds, which are very strong.

    The sphere of water molecules around each dissolved ion of solute
  13. Hydrophilic:
    Any substance that has an affinity for water
  14. Define colloid:
    A stable suspension of fine particles in a liquid
  15. Can a substance by hydrophilic without dissolving in water?
    Yes, (Colloids)
  16. What is a buffer?
    Substance that minimizes changes in the concentrations of H+ and OH- in a solution
  17. When CO2 dissolves in seawater, it reacts with water to form what?
    Carbonic Acid, a process collectively known as ocean acidification which lowers the overall pH of the ocean
