    used to treat muscle spasm
    may cause serious drowziness and withdrawl symptoms if abused
    diazepam (valium)
  2. this drug acts in the spinal cord as an adrenergic agonist
    used for spasticity
    may cause hypotension
    tizanidine (zanaflex)
  3. these drugs act at the level of the brain stem or spinal cord
    used for temporary relief of local, acute muscle spasm
    may cause tachycardia, blurry vision, and dry mouth
    • chlorzoxaone
    • cyclobenzaprine (flexeril)
    • carisoprodol (soma)
    • methocarbamol (robaxin)
    • orphenadrine (norflex)
  4. this drug inhibits release of neurotransmitters in the brain and SC esp. substance P
    can reduce inflammation and pain
    used to treat spasticity or reduce painful flexor or extensor spasm
    may cause drowsiness and increased seizures if epileptic
    baclofen (lioresal)
  5. this drug acts locally on muscle fibersto block release of calcium
    used for chronic spasticity
    may cause dizziness, drowsiness, diarrhea, and photosensitivity
    Dantrolene (dantrium)

    **should not be used with cardiac and resp. dysfunction**
