A simple way of explaining the complex process would be, the lungs oxygenate the blood; the oxygenated blood then travels through the arteries; once the oxygenated blood reaches its destination at the capillaries, the oxygen is then delivered. The successful delivery of oxygen will restore the body to function normally.
Another way the circulatory and respiratory system work together is by eliminating the body’s waste of carbon dioxide. All cells, tissues, and organs that use oxygen, will generate carbon dioxide waste. With elevated levels of carbon dioxide in the human body, the body cannot function properly. Symptoms such as shortness of breath, confusion, and headaches (or hypercapnia to summarize) are all related to the excessive levels of carbon dioxide.
