MED-Aspirin

  1. Functional Class
    Salicylate, Analgesic, Antiplatelet, Antipyretic
  2. Mechanism of Action
    • Blocks production of Cycloocygenase (COX) for antiplatelet
    • Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis for pain control
    • Centrally-mediated peripheral vasodilation and sweating reduces fever
  3. Indications
    • Suspected AMI
    • Chest pain
    • ACS
  4. Contraindications
    Hypersensitvity
  5. Precautions
    • Peptic ulcer
    • Asthma
  6. Side Effects
    • Overdose may result in toxicity:
    • Dizziness
    • N/V
    • Abdominal pain
    • Thrombocytopenia
    • Easy bruising
    • Metabolic acidosis
  7. Interactions
    • Incompatible with uricosic agents
    • Anticoagulants increase risk of bleeding

    160-325 mg PO
