    • 1. CNS Depressant

    • 3. Similar in action to other narcotics: Morphine, Nubain, Methadone, Etc
  3. Fentanyl (Sublimaze) Indications
    • 1. Acute Pain
    • 2. Induction agent for RSI
  4. Fentanyl (Sublimaze) Contraindications
    • 1. Severe hemorrage
    • 2. Shock
    • 3. Known allergy
  5. Fentanyl (Sublimaze) Precautions
    • 1. All bradycardias- counteragent: atropine
    • 2. counteragent in respiratory depression: Narcan
    • 3. Use with caution in patient's with liver/kidney malfunction
  6. Fentanyl (Sublimaze) Side Effects
    • 1. Respiratory depression / apnea
    • 2. Muscle rigidity
    • 3. Bradycardia
  7. Fentanyl (Sublimaze) Dosage
    • 1mcg/kg
    • Slow IV push over 2-3 minutes repeat PRN
    • (NOTE: rapid administratino of Fentanyl may result in extreme rigidity of the chest known as wooden chest severely impeeding respirations)

    IV
  9. Fentanyl (Sublimaze) How Supplied
    Ampule: 100 mcg / 2ml (50mcg per mL)
  10. Fentanyl (Sublimaze) Pediatric Dosage
    • 1 mcg / kg
    • Slow IV push over 2-3 minutes repeat prn
