functional regions of the cerebral cortex

  1. precentral gyrus
    Main motor are for movement of skeletal muscle. (frontal lobe)
  2. premotor area
    the motor cortex of the frontal lobe immediately in front of the precentral gyrus.
  3. frontal eye field
    the control of visual attention and eye movement (frontal lobe)
  4. broca’s area
    motor speech (frontal lobe)
  5. prefrontal cortex
    Regulates thought in terms of both short-term and long-term decision making. (frontal lobe)
  6. postcentral gyrus
    the main sensory receptive area for the sense of touch (parietal lobe)
  7. gustatory center
    the cerebral center supposed to control taste (parietal lobe)
  8. primary auditory center
    temporal lobe speech
  9. wernicke area
    It is involved in the understanding of written and spoken language. (temporal lobe)
  10. uncus
    processes information from the sense of smell (temporal lobe)
  11. calcarine area
    primary visual area. (occipital lobe)
  12. secondary visual area
    Occipital lobe
