Drug Class: Iron Preparation

• Indications:
• -prevention & treatment of iron deficiency & anemias.
• -dietary supplement for iron

• Teaching Points:
• -take drug on empty stomach with water. Take after meals if GI is severe; (avoid milk, eggs, coffee, tea)

Topical Drug

HIV may be inactivated in this solution. Apply as needed; treated areas may be bandaged. Causes less irritation than iodine & is less toxic.

Class: Laxative

Indications: short term relief of constipation.

Pregnancy category C: third trimester

Indications: Relief of symptoms of pressure, bloating, & fullness from excess gas in digestive tract.

Interventions: give after each meal & at bedtime

• Indications:
• -routine management after delivery of the placenta.
• -uterine stimulation during the second stage of labor following the delivery of the anterior shoulder, under strict medical supervision.

Teaching Points: don't take longer than 1 week.
