  2. Dopamine (Intropin) Actions
    • 1. Increase cardiac contractility
    • 2. cause peripheral vasoconstriction
    • 3. increases chrontropic and inotropic effects
    • 4. dilation of mesenteric and renal artieries promoting urination (reason Dopamine is prefered over norepinephrine)
    • Low Dose action (less than 10mcg / kg / min: Beta effects predominate
    • High Dose action (more than 10mcg / kg / min: Alpha Effects
  3. Dopamine (Intropin) Indications
    • 1. Cardiogenic Shock
    • 2. Any shock refractory to fluid resusitation
    • 3. Hypotension secondary to bradycardia post resusitation
  4. Dopamine (Intropin) Contraindications
    • 1. Hypovolemic Shock in which fluid resusitation has not been performed
    • 2. Uncorrected tachycardia or VF
  5. Dopamine (Intropin) Precautions
    • 1. ventricular irritability
    • 2. Do not mix with sodium bicarbonate
  6. Dopamine (Intropin) Side Effects
    • 1. VT
    • 2. Hypertension
    • 3. Headache, angina, nausea, vomitting
  7. Dopamine (Intropin) Dosage
    2-20mcg / kg / min increased as needed: titrate to level of consciousness, blood pressure, and urine output

    Method: 800mg into 500 ml of D5W or NS giving 1600 mcg / ml concentration

    • prefilled syringe, ampule: 200mg in 5ml
    • Premix drips: 400mg in 250ml
