•               Tissue Fe → Iron sulphide (black discolouration)

• * 2-4→72 hrs
• * disappears as putrefaction/autolysis begins (~1-2 days)

• - ↑ metabolic activity
• - ↓ muscle pH, O₂ and ATP
• - Ca²⁺ efflux from muscle cell
• - contraction of muscle fibres

- vascular congestion

- barbiturate crystal deposition on endocardium

- agonal regurgitation

- 'false' GIT intussusception

• - nodular hyperplasia
• - inflammatory lesions
• - most benign neoplasias
• - splenic siderofibrosis
• - wear and tear and rigidity of bones and joints
• - anthracosis
• - arteriosclerosis
• - atheriosclerosis
• - splenomegaly
• - steroid-induced vacuolar hepatopathy
