Check pupils for PERRLA, look for ptosis, strabismus, nystagmus, check extraocular movements w/cardinal positions

Elevated gaze

Abducens

Palpate temporal muscles while teeth clenched, test light touch on forhead and cheeks

Trigeminal

ASk to smile, frown, close eyes tight, lift eyebrows, show teeth

Facial nerve

whisper test, Weber and Rinne test (tuning fork)

Vestibulocochlear (aka Acoustic)

Depress tongue and watch uvula, soft palate, gag reflex, character of voice

Glossopharyngeal

Vagus

Strength of lateral head momvement, and shoulder raise with resistance

Accessory Nerve

Stick out tongue, have pt say words with l, t, d, n
