  1. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is associated with:
    • Insulin resistance - increased risk of DMt2
    • Elevated androgen - increased facial hair
    • Elevated LH 

    • Normal estrogen
    • Normal FSH
  2. Diabetes Mellitus diagnosis:
    • 1.  A fasting (8hrs) BG of at least 126
    • 2.  A non-fasting BG of at least 200 + symptoms
    • 3.  An oral glucose tolerance: BG of at least 200 after 2hrs.

    HbA1c >6% is suggestive but not recommended for routine use in DM diagnosis

    • Congenital conditions
    • Hemorrhage (trauma, anticoagulation)
    • Infections (Waterhouse-Friderichsen in meningococcemia)
    • Infiltrative conditions (amyloidosis, hemochromatosis, sarcoidosis)
    • Metastatic cancer
  4. Causes of Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency:
    • Pituitary problems (Sheehan's syndrome)
    • Chronic glucocorticoid use
  5. Most common cause of primary adrenal insufficiency:
    • worldwide = TB
    • US = autoimmune
