  1. Etiology
    · run down hill

    Sign/Symptoms
    · point tenderness over anterior tibialis tendon

    Management
    · Rest
    ·in serious cases- ice, stretch before running
    · Daily strengthening
    · anti-inflam
    · if chronic- cross friction massage
    Anterior Tibialis Tendinitis
  2. Etiology
    · common over use injury in runners w/ hypermobility or over pronation

    Signs/Symptoms
    · Pain and swelling in medial malleolus and during resistive inversion and plantar flexion
    · edema, point tenderness

    Management
    · Initially- RICE, NSAIDs
    · Cast w/ foot in inversion
    · Orthodics for over pronation
    Posterior Tibialis Tendinitis
  3. Etiology
    · not common
    · people w/ pes cavus --> stressing peroneal tendon

    Signs/Symptoms
    · pain behind lateral mallelus during push off
    · pain along distolateral aspect of calcaneus and beneath cuboid

    Management
    · RICE, NSAIDs, elastic taping, warm up and flexibility exercises
    · LowDye taping or orthodics
    Fibularis Tendinitis
  4. Etiology
    · Direct blow to lower leg- impacting periosteum anteriorly

    Signs/Symptoms
    · Intense pain, rapidly forming hematoma

    Management
    · RICE, NSAIDs
    · Maintaining compression for hematoma
    · Doughnut pad w/ orthoplast shell
    · if not managed turn into osteomyelitis
