  2. Etiology
    · by inversion, plantar flexion, and adduction
    · stetching of the ant talofib lig

    Signs and Symptoms
    · Mild pain and point tenderness over ligaments
    · weight bear minimally impaired

    Management
    · RICE 1-2 days
    · limited mobility then aggressive rehab
    · tape for support
    · return to activity 7-10 days
    Grade 1 Ligament Sprain
  3. Etiology
    · Mod inversion force

    Signs/Symptoms
    · Feel snap
    · mod pain, tenderness, edema
    · difficulty weight bear
    · Positive taltar tilt and anterior drawer tests

    Management
    · RICE 72 hrs
    · xray to rule out fx
    · crutches 5-10 days; progress to weight bear
    · early ROM for motion and proprioception
    · Taping for early support
    · Long term disability- chronic instability can lead to joint degeneration
    Grade 2 Ligament Sprain
  4. Etiology
    · uncommon
    · by significant inversion force resulting in subluxation and resuction
    · damage to ant/post talo fib, calcaneofib ligament, and capsule

    Signs/Symptoms
    · severe pain, swelling, hemarthrosis, discoloration
    · inability to walk
    · positive talar tilt and anterior drawer

    Management
    ·RICE, xray, dorsiflexion splint 3-6 weeks
    · isometrics while in cast, ROM, PRE and balance when out of cast
    · sugery may be required for increased stability
    Grade 3 Ligament Sprain
