Smallest unit that can carry out all processes of life
Cell
Basic theory about the cellular nature of life (3 essential parts)
Cell Theory
Membrane-bound organelle that contains cell's DNA
Nucleus
Organisms that lack a membrane-bound nucleus & membrane-bound organelles
Prokaryote
Intracellular bodies that preform specific functions for the cell
Organelle
Organisms made up of one or more cells that have a nucleus & membrane-bound organelles
Eukaryote
Cells outer boundary (covers cell's surface & acts as a barrier between the inside & outside of a cell
Plasma Membrane
Organelles made of protein & RNA that direct protein synthesis in the cytoplasm
Ribosome
Tiny organelles that transfer energy from organic molecules to ATP
Mitochondria
2 short cylinders of microtubules at right angles to each other & are situated in the cytoplasm near the nuclear envelope
Centrioles
System of membranous tubes & sacs, called cisternae
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
Structures in the nucleus made of DNA & protein
Chromosome
Flattened, membranous sacs that directs proteins
Golgi Apparatus
Semipermeable membrane surrounding the cytoplasm of a cell
Cell Membrane
Firm, protective structure that gives the cell its shape in plants, fungi, most bacteria, and some protests
