    • 5) Negative inotrope
  5. Diltiazem - Indications:
    • Rapid ventricular rates in:
    • a) A-fib and a-flutter
    • b) PSVT refractory to Adenosine
  6. Diltiazem - Contraindications:
    • 1) Hypotension or cardiogenic shock
    • 2) VT or wide-complex tachycardia
    • 3) Wolf-Parkinson's White Syndrome
  7. Diltiazem - Precautions:
    • 1) Can cause systemic hypotension
    • 2) Calcium chloride shold be available to prevent hypotensive effects
    • 3) Should be refrigerated
    • 4) Avoid giving to patients receiving beta-blockers
  8. Diltiazem - Side effects:
    • 1) Nausea and vomiting
    • 2) Dizziness and headache
    • 3) Bradycardia, heart blocks and asystole
    • 4) Hypotension
  9. Diltiazem - Adult dosage:
    20mg IV bolus (0.25mg/kg) over 2 minutes

    IV: slow push and piggyback

    Vials: 25mg/5mL OR 50mL/10mL
