    • Function: elevation of pharynx
  6. Palatopharyngeus muscle
    • Innervation: vagus nerve
    • Function: elevation of pharynx, closure of oropharyngeal isthmus
  7. Cricothyroid muscle
    • Innervation: external pranch of superior laryngeal
    • Function: forward and downward rotation of thyroid cartilage at cricothyroid joint
  8. Posterior cricoarytenoid
    • Innervation: recurrent laryngeal
    • Function: abduction and external rotation of arytenoid cartilage
  9. Lateral arytenoid
    • Innervation: recurrent laryngeal
    • Function: internal rotation of the arytenoid cartilage and adduction of vocal folds
  10. Transverse Arytenoid
    • Innervation: recurrent laryngeal
    • Function: Adduction of arytenoid cartilages
  11. Oblique arytenoid
    • Innervation: recurrent laryngeal
    • Function: Sphincter of the laryngeal inlet
  12. Thyroarytenoid
    • Innervation: recurrent laryngeal
    • Function: Sphincter of the vestibule and laryngeal inlet
  13. Vocalis
    • Innervation: recurrent laryngeal
    • Function: Adjusts tension in vocal cords
