    Regulated by the FDA the FDCA elaborated on the 1906 Federal Food Act making misbranding & adulteration illegal. In addition warning labels were added to controlled substances. Cosnetis were added to the drug laws.
  4. 1951 Durham-Humphrey Amendment
    Enfotced by the FDA. Also known as The Perscription Amendment put drugs into two categories Legend (Rx) & NonLegend ( OTC)
  5. 1970 Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention & Control Act
    Regulated by the DEA. Also known as the Controlled Substance Act (CSA) provided that controlled substances are regulated and documented more closely. Stairstep schedule. CI-CV.
  6. 1970 Poison Prevention Packaging Act
    Regulated by the DEA. The PPPA was responsible for childproofing medications.
  7. 1990 Omnibus Budget Reconcilliation Act
    OBRA requires all pharmacists offer counsel (at the time of purchase) to all patients recieving a new perscription.
  8. 1996 Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act
    HIPAA used to make sure a patient was able to continue their insurance even after changing employment. HIPAA ensures the privacy rights of patients are protected.
  9. 2005 Combat Meth Act
    Due to the use of pseudoephedrine to make methamphetamines, the sale of pseudoephedrine is regulated and harder to obtain in large quantities. 9gm/30days.
